Live Roulette
Live roulette is a physical wheel with a real croupier, streamed in real time. Bets close, the ball drops, and you watch it land. The rules match any roulette table — but there is one structural advantage to the live version that almost nobody mentions, and it is about time rather than odds.
The speed argument
The house edge in roulette applies per spin. A software wheel resolves instantly and will let you play several times as many spins per hour as a live table, where bets close, the croupier spins, and the ball takes its time.
Same edge, more spins, more cost per hour. For a player intending a long session on a fixed budget, the slower live table is structurally the cheaper choice — not because the odds are better, but because you get fewer bites taken out of your balance in the same evening.
That is the opposite of how live tables are usually framed, and it is the most useful thing to know about them.
European first, always
A European wheel has 37 pockets with a single zero. An American wheel has 38, adding a double zero, and pays exactly the same. That extra pocket roughly doubles the house edge — about 2.7% against about 5.26%.
Live floors carry both. Check which wheel you are sitting at before you place a chip; there is no argument for the American one when a European table is available. Some European tables also run la partage or en prison, which return or hold half an even-money stake when zero lands and roughly halve the edge on those bets. That is in the table's rules panel.
The variants you will see
Speed roulette shortens the betting window and runs more spins per hour, which reverses the advantage described above. Auto roulette has no croupier and is faster still. Double ball and multi-wheel tables change the bet structure rather than the wheel.
Lightning Roulette adds multipliers to struck numbers and funds them by reducing the straight-up payout — a real trade, not a bonus.
Practicalities
Live tables stream video and use more data than software games. Everything is staked and settled in rand at a licensed operator.
