Ozow Deposits

Ozow is a South African pay-by-bank service that moves money straight from your bank account with no card details involved. You choose your bank, approve the payment in a secure session, and the funds arrive in seconds. Functionally it does the same job as Instant EFT — which one you see depends on the cashier, and either is a good choice if you bank online.

Depositing with Ozow

  1. In the cashier, choose Deposit and select Ozow.
  2. Enter the rand amount.
  3. Select your bank.
  4. Log in through the secure session and approve.
  5. Return to the cashier — the balance updates immediately in normal conditions.

Nothing about your card is involved because no card is involved. If you have ever paid for something online in South Africa without typing a card number, this is the flow you used.

Supported banks

Ozow works with the major South African banks — FNB, Capitec, Standard Bank, Absa, Nedbank, TymeBank and others including African Bank, Discovery Bank, Investec, Bidvest Bank and Bank Zero.

If your bank is not on the list at the cashier, the practical alternatives are Capitec Pay for Capitec customers, a card deposit, or a cash voucher if you would rather keep gambling spend away from your bank entirely.

What goes wrong

Session expiry is the most common failure. Bank login sessions are short by design; if an OTP took too long to arrive, the payment may never have completed. Check your bank balance before retrying.

Debited but not reflecting. Refresh once and give it a few minutes. Do not repeat the deposit — a duplicate payment is harder to resolve than a delayed one. Contact support with the amount, the exact time and the bank reference and it can be traced and allocated.

Insufficient available balance. Pay-by-bank draws on cleared funds. A pending salary or an uncleared deposit in your account will not cover the payment even if the balance looks right on your app.

Fees and payouts

Goldrush charges no deposit fee on Ozow. Your own bank may apply its normal transaction charge.

Pay-by-bank routes tend to be the quickest for withdrawals too, though the first payout waits on FICA verification. Submitting your documents at registration removes that wait entirely — see what holds up a withdrawal. Compare all the options on the payment methods page.

Frequently asked questions

What is Ozow?

A South African pay-by-bank service. You approve a payment inside a secure session with your own bank rather than entering card details anywhere, and the money moves directly from your account to your balance in seconds.

Is Ozow the same as Instant EFT?

They do the same job — pay directly from your bank account with no card details. Which one appears in the cashier depends on the operator's setup. If you bank online, either is a good choice and the flow is nearly identical.

Why did my Ozow payment fail?

Usually the bank session expired while you were finding a password or waiting for an OTP, or the account did not have cleared funds available. Check your bank balance before retrying, so you do not end up paying twice.

Does Ozow charge a fee?

Goldrush does not charge a deposit fee on Ozow. Your own bank may apply its standard transaction charge, which is worth checking if you deposit frequently.
