Capitec Pay Deposits
Capitec Pay is the cleanest deposit method available to a Capitec customer. You enter your cell number at the cashier, a payment request appears inside the Capitec app, you approve it there, and the money moves. No banking details are entered anywhere — not a card number, not an account number, not a password on any site but Capitec's own app.
How it works
- In the cashier, choose Deposit and select Capitec Pay.
- Enter the rand amount and the cell number linked to your Capitec profile.
- Open the Capitec app — a payment request is waiting.
- Approve it in the app.
- The balance updates, normally within seconds.
The security model is the reason to prefer it: you are authorising a payment inside your own banking app, on your own phone. Nothing sensitive travels through the casino or a browser session at all.
When the request does not arrive
This is the one thing that goes wrong, and it is nearly always one of three causes.
- Wrong cell number. It must be the number registered on your Capitec profile, not simply a phone you own. A number changed at the bank but not at the cashier will not receive the request.
- The app needs updating. Capitec Pay is a relatively recent feature and an old app build may not show requests properly.
- The request expired. Requests time out. If you did not get to the app quickly, start again rather than waiting.
If money left your account and the balance did not update, the standard rule applies: refresh once, wait, do not pay again, then send support your proof of payment with the amount, time and reference.
Capitec Pay or Instant EFT
Both move money straight from a Capitec account. The difference is where you approve it.
Instant EFT opens a secure browser session where you log into internet banking. Capitec Pay skips that entirely and authorises inside the app you already have open on your phone. For a Capitec customer on mobile, Capitec Pay is faster and involves entering less. Ozow is the third route and behaves like Instant EFT.
Fees and withdrawals
Goldrush charges no fee to deposit via Capitec Pay. Capitec may apply its own standard transaction charge.
For payouts, winnings go to a verified account in your own name — which for most Capitec Pay users is the same Capitec account. Complete FICA verification at registration so your first withdrawal is not held up by it. See how withdrawals work or compare methods on the payment methods page.
Frequently asked questions
How does Capitec Pay work?
You enter the rand amount and your Capitec-registered cell number at the cashier, then approve the payment request that appears inside the Capitec app. No card or account details are entered anywhere outside your own banking app.
Why has my payment request not appeared?
Usually the cell number does not match the one registered on your Capitec profile, the app needs updating, or the request timed out before you opened it. Check the number first — it is the most common cause.
Is Capitec Pay better than Instant EFT?
For a Capitec customer on a phone, generally yes. Both draw from the same account, but Capitec Pay authorises inside the app rather than through a browser banking session, so there is less to enter and less to go wrong.
Do I need the Capitec app?
Yes. The payment request is delivered to and approved inside the app, so it must be installed, up to date, and logged in on the phone linked to your Capitec profile.
